Tea & Etiquette: Taking Tea for Business and Pleasure
Published in Hardcover by Capital Books Inc (01 October, 1998)
Authors: Dorothea Johnson and James Norwood Pratt
Average review score:

Good Reference on tea entertainment
I find this book very useful and informative. The author presents the material in a concise and down to earth manner. The etiquette portion of this book contains do's and do not's that leaves no questions. The tone of the book is conversational just like the topic it explains. If you are thinking about having a tea party for the first time or attending to one, this book is a must read!

This book was a pure delight
I enjoyed this book so well, I'm sending a copy to my sister. The Simple pleasures in life can be the greatest. Graciousness in easy to read and apply form.

An excellent guide for etiquette in the 90's.
This book is an excellent follow-up to Mrs. Johnson's miniature book "The Little Book of Etiquette". It primarily focuses on etiquette in the tea room, but it also discusses everyday etiquette as well as business etiquette. This is an easy to understand, user-friendly book. A must for anyone who loves to take tea.

Inspiring Childrens Book
I wish I had been read such a story when I was young so I could visualize, personalize the heavenly experience. My son loves to read this book. Sometimes we alternate reading pages. I thank the author for such a lovely contribution to our library.

For kids and "adult kids" alike
An excellent book with wonderful illustrations. The text is not heavy and is great for beginning discussions with your children or just stirring thought in yourself. The quoted scripture is very appropriate. Great for an adult who may be forgetting the simplicity of faith and the hopefulness it brings. I had the opportunity to meet the author in Nashville and she is an inspiring person herself. I am glad she was so persistant in finding a publisher for her book so I can share it with others as she shares her God given gift with us in this book.

Inspired
A beautiful book for the young and young at heart. The illustrations are wonderful, bright colors & enchanting images! Simply amazing. Bring God into you childrens life on a daily basis by reading it to them or having them read it to you.

Therapist's Guide to Clinical Intervention: the 1-2-3's of Treatment Planning

The Therapist's Guide to Clinical Intervention
"The Therapist's Guide to Clinical Intervention is a wonderful addition to my office reference library! It is a comprehensive "guide" to writing treatment plans, and organizing data for easier documentation. This guide is a much appreciated time-saving resource. I recommend this book as an additional reference guide for any therapist in private practice."

Thank You.
A time saver that keeps me sane!!! Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

Thorough, practical and ethical guide.
The Therapist's Guide to Clinical Intervention

The 123's of Treatment Planning is a timely resource for therapists in the age of managed care. This is a pragmatic and helpful reference for conceptualizing and writing treatment plans that should meet insurance, managed care, and national quality guidelines. There are descriptions of major DSM-IV disorder groups, along with general treatment goals and accompanying objectives for consideration. These plans are from a cognitive behavioral viewpoint. For graduate students, this first section will provide guidelines for treatment planning. For experienced professionals, it will provide reminders, help fill in some blanks, and encourage the use of some new techniques. The second section is on the clinical assessment of special circumstances. The red flag issues of suicide, homicide and grave disability assessments are covered in a succinct and straight forward manner. This is an excellent review for post doctorates preparing for a licensing exam. There are also assessment guidelines for chemical dependency, child abuse, spousal abuse, child custody evaluations and Worker's Compensation disability evaluations.

The third section covers skill building for patients. It is an assemblage of file folders that most of us keep on general areas that are helpful to our clients. Areas covered include: management of stress, anger, anxiety and depression, relaxation, communication, dealing with chemical dependency, and parenting.

The final section deals with forms, both of a clinical and business nature, that are used on a daily basis in independent practice offices. Many experienced independent practitioners will find this helpful when they wish to update their forms.

The Therapist's Guide to Clinical Intervention is thorough, practical, and ethical. It is a reference source for graduate students, clinicians preparing for their licensing exams, and for seasoned professionals.

Think Yourself Loved
Published in Paperback by Unity (October, 1999)
Author: Debbie Johnson
Average review score:

An outstanding, inspiring Christian self-help book.
Think Yourself Loved is a spiritual guide to discovering self-love through love of God. Simple exercises are suggested and group support resources are used. Empowering suggestions for releasing emotions and promoting self healing come from the author's experience of resolving pain and difficulty in her own life. Honest, heart wrenching, fresh and appealing in its approach, Think Yourself Loved is a Christian self help book with a gentle and uplifting message.

Love is the Answer!
As a Corporate Trainer and Personal/Professional Coach I have found Debbie Johnson's book, Think Yourself Loved, to be an invaluable resource. I have found the core issue for most people to living a fulfilling life and achieving their most precious dreams is that they need to truly love themselves and know that they are always loved by God. The exercises in this book gently assist my clients in changing the way they view themselves on all levels. Debbie's book goes beyond many of the self-help books on the market because it covers the emotional, mental, physical, social, and spiritual aspects of learning to love oneself.

This book is user-friendly and fun to read as it is written like a workshop in a book with exercises to do in each chapter. The exercises would also work well for seminars, wellness classes, and individual coaching or counseling sessions. If you want to get the most out of life and especially want more happiness, joy, and love consider purchasing the book for yourself and as a gift for your friends, family and clients!

This book can save you money on the therapists couch!
As a psychotherapist and healer for twenty years, I have come to recognize that self-love is the number one key to replacing unhappiness and emotional distress with pure contentment and inner peace. Think Yourself Loved is an invaluable resource for anyone who is searching for greater love and fulfillment in their lives...and who of us isn't? Love is the most popular theme in songs, movies and books, yet many people don't feel they have enough and are still searching for more. Why does love elude so many? How can we find real love? Debbie Johnson gets to the heart of the matter in her book. Love is often addressed from either a spiritual or a psychological viewpoint, but Debbie Johnson incorporates both in a very practical, down-to-earth, yet transcendent approach. Many psychotherapists tell their clients and members that they must learn to love themselves before they can have the love they desire. This makes sense, but how does one do so? Like her best seller, Think Yourself Thin, Ms. Johnson's book is full of specific steps and exercises. These tools will help us experience greater love in our lives. She shares her own very personal journey; from a childhood lacking in love, to recognizing the ultimate Source of Love, to acting as if and imagining/thinking herself loved, to finally being open to allowing a partner in love to enter her life. If you want more love, this book may help you get it.

Love, Tragedy and War.
I really was not interested in reading a book on slaves and war. So when I finally decided to read the book I could not put it down. The love scenes were so passionated and the strength that the famlies had for each other was so binding. You will enjoy this book.

A story of Love, tragedy and war.
I really was not interested in reading this book about slaves and war. When I finally decided to read the book I could not put it down. The love scenes were so passionated, and the togetherness that the families had for each other was so full of strength. You will be surprise at what this book holds.

Fascinating Story of Love and War
An enjoyable read, full of intrigue and romance. Although I am no fan of the Civil War era, the story held my attention as these characters faced many obstacles to their love during the conflicts of war. I recommend this book to any one who loves an historically accurate and captivating drama.

Turning the Thing Around: Pulling America's Team Out of the Dumps-And Myself Out of the Doghouse
Published in Hardcover by Hyperion (September, 1993)
Authors: Jimmy Johnson and Ed Hinton
Average review score:

One Great Book
Jimmy Johnson's life is a great story, this book tells that story with great detail from Johnson's boyhood in Port Arthur, Texas all the way through his days of restoring glory in Dallas. This book is not just for Cowboy fans, it's for anyone who loves a good book.

Jimmy's book is great
If you are a Jimmy Johnson fan or a fan of good football autobiographies, then check this book out. It starts with Jimmy living in Port Arthur and takes you all the way through to his days with the Cowboys. The best part of the book in my opinion was the behind the scenes of the different colleges he coached at.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!
Great "behind the scenes" book. Great stories you would expect to hear in a lockeroom or at a bar somewhere with friends. A must read.

The Walls of Jericho : Lyndon Johnson, Hubert Humphrey, Richard Russell and the Struggle for Civil Rights
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt (June, 1996)
Author: Robert Mann
Average review score:

Story of struggle and inspiration
The Walls of Jericho offers a riveting, close-up and personal review of the political struggles of the Civil Rights movement, seen through the eyes of three is its major protagonists. Author Robert Mann carries us to know and understand southerner, racist Richard Russell, southerner human rights supporter Lyndon Johnson, and northerner firebrand liberal Hubert Humphrey. We agree with them, or disagree with them, Mann allows us to understand where they are coming from. In the end, they are good men trying to do good things, as they see them to be good. I was emotionally struck in reading about the personal, political, and social interplay.

A highly perceptive and well written account.
This is a clear discussion of the process whereby civil rights legislation passed the Senate in the late 1950's and the 1960's, despite the filibusters threatened and actual of the Southern Democratic senators. It could easily have been a book about political re-alignment as well, but it would probably need to be twice as long. Many of the trends that dictated the course of American politics in the 1960's are seen in microcosm in this book - Would the South bolt the Democratic Party? Would the Democrats capture the African-American vote from the party of Lincoln? Could a Southern Democrat win the Whitehouse? Would the Dixiecrats throw the presidency to the GOP? It is an extremely clear narrative, that occasionally looks at the bigger picture of American politics, and records the force of personality in parliamentary politics. It clearly records the seismic changes that the wily and calculating LBJ, as an otherwise unelectable Southern Democrat, wrought to the Democratic Party after President Kennedy's death, in the search for a personal victory in the 1964 presidential election.

An excellent book on civil rights and politics
Having grown up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Hubert Humphrey is remembered and revered, and then living in Atlanta, Georgia for 14 years, the land of Martin Luther King and Richard Russell (and the region of LBJ), I was very intrigued by the subject of this book. I also found it refreshingly evenhanded, yet an intimate and personal view into one of the most important periods of American history, written about a subject that not only is in the forefront of out collective attention, but has been so since before our nation was founded. Not only that, it was a good read, with as much excitement and plot twists as the latest from Grisham.

If you are at all interested in Civil Rights, or you just like reading about politics, this is a very good place to start.

The Weekend Refinisher: How to Make the Most of Your Furniture-A Step-By-Step Guide
Published in Paperback by Ballantine Books (Trd Pap) (March, 1989)

The Bible for Refinishing!
If you have only one piece of furniture you want to work on, you will still find this book invaluable. Everything you need to know about how to repair, when to restore, when to refinish and how to approach it, which tools to use, the dizzying array of products available, and what NOT to do- it's all their and with just a touch of humor to keep the author human.

I have read and reread mine!

Furnitiure Refinishing and Repairing For Dummies
There is just to much information in this book to cover in one review. Chapter highlights include learning from the author's mistakes. What supplies you'll need to accomplish that particular task. Explanation of various stains, finishes, repairing techniques for comtemporary and antique furniture. I read about it on an internet message board and I couldn't have repaired and refinished my forty year old danish modern bauhaus dining table and chairs without it. I even went to a woodworking store and bought a combination tung oil/varnish finish that I just wiped on! No brushes; no spray!!! I saved $1000 by doing it myself!!! It looks so professional!!!!

Excellent resource - all you need to know!
I finally found a source with all the "secrets" to refinishing and restoring for the occasional woodworker. An easy and lighthearted read. A well organized reference. It will be the only refinishing book I will ever need.

No Other Desert Guide Comes Close to this one
Excellent reading and unbelievably comprehensive - from describing how to store food to how to keep your feet dry. I have already given 2 copies away to friends as gifts.

The hiking or camping enthusiast doesn't need any other book.
